Phillip J. Koch – Owner – President

Phil graduated from Towson University in 2003. After college he acquired a job in the printing industry. In 2005, he started painting in the evenings for Ludwig Painting Inc. in addition to his day job. The growing success of painting eventually turned into a full time job.

After 2 years, Phil started his own company Koch Painting LLC. Koch Painting was a successful company but was closed in 2011 to try a sales job at the Baltimore Business Journal.

After 1 year, Phil came back to painting.  In 2012 Phillip James Inc. was born.  Phillip James Inc started as a small one man crew working out of the back of a jeep.  On word of mouth alone,  in 2 years it has grown to multiple vehicles and employees.

Melissa Cool – Executive Assistant – Office Manager

Melissa is our part-time office manager. In addition to working on the day-to-day things here at Phillip James, Melissa operates her own pet care business in Northern Baltimore County. When she is not working, Melissa spends her time volunteering with her church, Timonium United Methodist. Melissa also enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, and learning new things.


Paulina Perkovich – Executive Assistant – Seasonal Marketing

Paulina is a Maryland native and a Senior at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York. She will be graduating in May 2021 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and Finance. She is also a member of the Division 1 Women’s Lacrosse team, Honors Program, and the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family, going to the beach, and running.

Chris Roque – Operations Manager – Lead Project Manager

Chris is a proud Baltimore native.  Chris spent time traveling and playing music for our country with the USO.  He has experience with heavy equipment, automotive management and custom guitar manufacturing.  Chris currently plays music with Grace Fellowship Church in Timonium and occasionally helps other bands when in need of an experienced guitar player.

Chris began his career with Phillip James in 2015 and has quickly become their newest project manager.


Jamie Brown – Project Manager – Painter

Jamie Brown grew up around Baltimore and graduated from Lynchburg College in Virginia in 2016. He has worked as a counselor for Beachmont Christian Camp during the summer and he attends Journey Church. Jamie enjoys reading, playing basketball, and spending time with his family.


Joe Scaruzzi – Painter

Joe is an accomplished Eagle Scout.  He has voluntarily completed numerous community service programs during his time with the Boy Scouts.  He also enjoys sports and family during his free time.


Zack Krakowiak – Painter

Zack is a Maryland native. He graduated from City Neighbors High School and was involved in the Art’s design team. Zack is very experienced in HVAC and prior to working for Phillip James was an HVAC apprentice for several years. In his free time, Zack enjoys spending time with family, friends, and working on creative projects.
